During the reign of Pedro I in the 14th century, the construction of the Mudéjar palace we know today was ordered, on top of the old Almohad buildings, adjoining it to the existing Gothic palace of Alfonso X. Since then, the Alcázar has been the seat of the monarchy in Seville and is still used on official occasions by the Spanish royal family.
